On November 30th, Kevan and 19 colleagues, headed up by England rugby legend Lewis Moody MBE, set off to battle 300km of the best terrain Costa Rica could throw at them. Battling rapids, mountains, jungle, shark-infested waters, spiders, snakes, humidity, monsoon rains and altitude, all in aid of the Brain Tumour HeadSmart Campaign, with this horrendous disease being the biggest cancer killer of children.
“As you can see from a selection of these pictures, it was an incredibly gruelling but massivley rewarding trip” says Kevan, “the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. The first few days lulled us into a sense of well being with a canoe and hill trek, but as the mountains came and we jumped on the bikes, we were doing 70km a day with a regular 2km climb thrown in to the mix, in 35 degree heat and 90% humidity.
Personally, I received some devastating news from some close friends of a 13 year old girl who had just been diagnosed and very sadly lost her life, incredibly within the space of just a few months. This tear jerking news kept me going through the pain of the week, as what I was going through, was nothing compared to the families and friends of people who are diagnosed with this terrible illness”
“I am extremely grateful to all those who helped smash my target of £3,000 to a huge £6,025 for the 8 days and overall the entire team raised £110,000 which is incredible, thank you.”
