Zenergi in Focus: Interview With A Complex Query Specialist

A company culture is the personality of a company. It defines the environment in which our employees work, and includes a variety of elements such as company mission, working environment, standards, ethics, values and goals.

At Zenergi, we’ve learned how hiring the right people is vital to maintaining our unique, fun company culture. Each member of the team is individually empowered to make a difference   Every new team member has the chance to change and enhance our company culture for the better.

With this in mind, we’ve interviewed a few of our current employees to help you get a feel for what it’s like to work for a company that truly appreciates its people

First up, we’re talking to our Complex Query Specialist, Sue (more to follow soon)…

So, Sue, how long have you now been part of the Zenergi Team?

“I have now been lucky enough to be part of the Zenergi family for just over six years.”

What previous experience or roles did you have before joining Zenergi?

“After having a family, I then started my career in retail as a supervisor and then deputy manager, before moving to British Gas and their customer service team. Then, after being with British Gas for almost ten years, I was sadly made redundant.”

“I joined a recruitment agency and was pointed in the direction of Zenergi. I went for an interview and was really excited by the prospect of joining the team.”

And, was there any particular reason why you chose to join Zenergi?

“After a slightly nervous interview, I was delighted to accept the job at Zenergi and continue working in the energy sector, something I really enjoy. Since starting, I have worked my way up from an account manager level, responsible for a portfolio of customers, to now being part of the Complex Query Team.”

“I really liked the look and feel of the company, and thought it was the best place for me to develop professionally.”

Would you say then that Zenergi has a good work-life balance and is a great
place to work?

“Yes, absolutely. The team are very supportive with everything that life has to throw at you!”

What is your favourite things about working at Zenergi?

“The family feel and the rewards you get. Not only financially but acknowledgement for hard work”

Before we look at some specific questions, could you tell me a little more about the role and what day-to-day life is like at Zenergi?

“As a Complex Query Specialist I spend a lot of time talking to suppliers directly to help them identify and resolve issues with their billing, metering, sales quoting, contract renewals, contract terminations, etc.”

“I also work very closely with Zenergi’s Relationship Managers to help them resolve any new queries or issues their clients might be experiencing. In some instances you may be required to deal with escalated complaints, so being flexible and able to react quickly is really important.”

“I spend a lot of time tracking, analysing and managing all cases and queries. This is mainly to identify ways in which our clients could save more money and reduce the risk of issues in the future. This information is normally then fed back to the relationship manager who will take it from there.”

And, when you first started what kind of support were you given?

“When I first started I was given so much time and support by all the Zenergi family, especially my line manager, Chris. Chris, who has also joined the CQS team and remains my line manager, has really helped me settle into the role, and even though I have now worked here for six years, he still is always on hand to help me with anything.”

“Because of my experience at British Gas I didn’t really need too much technical training or support, but there are few members of my team who didn’t have much previous experience and received loads of support and training.”

After being in your role for just over six years now, what qualities and skills do you believe make a successful Complex Query Specialist?

“It might sound pretty obvious, but having a good work ethic, I believe, will always help no matter the role. Because we deal with so many different client queries each day, it really is vital that you are organised and can adapt to different situations quickly”

“I’m a real ‘people’ person and I love a chat. From my experience, I have found this to be one of the most useful skills. You need to be able to clearly communicate and build good relationships with clients.”

What would you say is the best part of your role?

“Oh that’s easy – variety! It sounds a little cliché but no two days are the same here.”

And, what would you say is the most difficult part of your role?

“Pressure – workload and timescales. Because we are dealing with such a variety or queries and demands from clients, we are often working to tight deadlines. That’s why good organisation and time management are key”

Lastly, what advice would you give anyone thinking of applying for a role at Zenergi?

“To be yourself, but also open to change as this company is growing all the time. Having a good sense of humour is always important because we all love a laugh, here! And to be prepared to work to the best of your ability.”
