Zenergi in Focus: Interview With A Relationship Manager (Orange)

Interview With A Zenergi Relationship Manager

Company culture is the personality of a company. It defines the environment in which our employees work, and includes a variety of elements such as company mission, working environment, standards, ethics, values and goals.

At Zenergi, we’ve learned how hiring the right people is vital to maintaining our unique, fun company culture. Each member of the team is individually empowered to make a difference    Every new team member has the chance to change and enhance our company culture for the better.

With this in mind, we’ve interviewed a few of our current employees to help you get a feel for what it’s like to work for a company that truly appreciates its people.

We recently interviewed one of our Complex Query Specialists, Sue and looked at her experience of joining the team, what she enjoys and finds challenging in her role and what its like being part of the zenergi family.

Next up, we have Debbi, one of our Relationship Managers from the Orange Team…

So, Debbi, how long have you now been part of the Zenergi Team?

“Just over a year now”

What previous experience or roles did you have before joining Zenergi?

“Before joining Zenergi, I worked at Doncaster Council for 28 years as a Senior Energy Officer. Within this role, I mainly dealt with procurement and energy for schools and local authorities.”

And, was there any particular reason why you chose to join Zenergi?

“Unfortunately, I was made redundant. Councils are under enormous pressure to find savings and this resulted in a large amount of redundancies, of which I was one.
This actually came as a bit of a blessing, as I was able to join the Zenergi family.”

Before we look at some specific questions, could you tell me a little more about the role and what day-to-day life is like at Zenergi?

“As an Orange Relationship Manager I am responsible for a portfolio of some of Zenergi’s most high profile clients. Within this role I manage every aspect of their energy needs and are their main point of call for any issues, billing management, new business, etc.

I also work very closely and collaborate with service providers and other departments within Zenergi to provide the best service possible to our clients.”

And when you first started, what support were you given by your team members?

“The whole team were so incredibly welcoming and supportive in my first few weeks, and really helped me settle into the new role quickly.

From a technical standpoint, I didn’t really need much support or help due to working in the industry for 28 years. However, I know that there is a fantastic support structure and loads of support and training is given to those who need it.”

After being in your role for just over a year now, what qualities and skills do you believe make a successful Relationship Manager?

“Good communication skills are so essential, and really at the heart of this role. You need to be able to communicate at all levels and be really aware of your target audience – whether it be a Caretaker, School Business Managers, Financial Directors or Heads.

Flexibility is also important. Different, tailored approaches are often needed in this industry and you need to be able to adapt quickly to your clients needs. On occasions, you will also have to deal with challenging individuals, so a positive, can-do attitude is also important.

Obviously, other skills such as good organisation, time management and knowledge of the industry are also important to this particular role.”

What would you say the best part of your role is?

“One of the great things about working here at Zenergi is the amount of autonomy you are given. I love being able to manage my own role and workload.

The support you get from the Zen family is also brilliant!”

Would you say then that Zenergi has a good work-life balance and is a great place to work?

“Absolutely – the team are terrific and your input always feels valued.

It’s a very relaxed, friendly, hard working environment with high standards, and fully supported.

We really do have a great environment and work/ life balance. Happy work, happy life!”

What is your favourite things about Zenergi?

“It’s definitely the people – you’re fully supported no matter your position. We all help each other out, and that’s what I love. I also feel I can give honest feedback to my colleagues and management.”

What advice would you give a person who is thinking of applying for a job at Zenergi?

“Be prepared to be open minded, hard working, have a good work ethos and you will be well supported and looked after by our friendly team members who are happy to help!”
